Vol. 357 No. 1

Written Answers. - County Limerick Schools.

637.

asked the Minister for Education when the building of phase 2 of the Corpus Christi primary school, Moyross, County Limerick will commence; and if she is aware that the Minister for Justice promised the parents' council that phase 2 would commence in the spring of this year.

639.

asked the Minister for Education is she is aware of the demonstrated need for eight to ten additional classrooms for Corpus Christi national school, Moyross, County Limerick, for the school term beginning September 1986; if she will indicate the extent, if any, of the discussions which have taken place between officials of her Department and school authorities with a view to providing these classrooms as the parents of Corpus Christi parish, where there are over 900 families, are anxious that their children receive their full primary education in their parish; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 637 and 639 together. My Department in November 1981 approved the provision of a new national school at Moyross, County Limerick, to be built in two phases. The first phase comprising eight classrooms and a general purposes area has now been erected. At present there are five classes in the school.

A sketch scheme for a further phase of building has been approved and my Department hope shortly to be in a position to discuss with the school authorities arrangements for the preparation of the contract documents. I am aware of the interest of the Minister for Justice in the progress of this project.

638.

asked the Minister for Education if she will indicate her intentions as to the provision of a remedial teacher for Corpus Christi national school, Moyross, County Limerick, arising from a request to her Department from the school authorities for an urgent response in this regard; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

An application for a remedial teaching post in this school is currently being investigated by the Department. The question of the allocation of a remedial teaching post will be considered in the context of the priority of need and the availability of remedial posts in the future.
