(Clare) asked the Minister for Industry, Trade, Commerce and Tourism if he will arrange to have the Edenderry electoral area, County Offaly, included in the Shannon Free Airport Development Company as the IDA have made no progress in recent times in getting suitable industries for the area.

I am not in favour of extending the SFADCo area for small industry development as far east as Edenderry. The Deputy will be aware that in accordance with the White Paper published in July 1984, the IDA have now regionalised its small industries programme devolving responsibility for grant approvals to regional boards with local representation. The Midlands Board were established in June of this year. The availability of the four small industry cluster units of 3,000 square feet each and the 23 acres of land in Edenderry should provide an attractive infrastructure to facilitate the establishment of small industries in the town.
