Vol. 362 No. 8

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take item No. 1. By agreement the following arrangements will apply: (1) the statement of each Member called on shall not exceed 45 minutes; (2) A Member who has concluded a statement on this report shall not be called on to make a further statement.

I understand that I cannot do it this morning because the Order has already been made for the House, but I would like to give notice that we will be moving item No. 7 on today's Order Paper, the Conflict of Laws Reform Bill, 1985 on Tuesday next and it will be taken in Private Member's time.

It is not necessary to give notice but I note what you say.

Let me ask the Acting Taoiseach and Leader of the House when the promised legislation to give statutory backing to the INPC will be introduced and if the Government will include in that legislation authority for the INPC to rebuild the Whiddy terminal with the money they are getting from Chevron to pay for their legal responsibilities in pulling out of the £60 million development deal?

I will allow the first part of the question.

I would require notice to obtain that information for the Deputy, but I am sure if he puts the same question on the Order of Business on the next sitting day the information will be provided.

I am asking the Minister if he will also include in that question on the next Order of Business, the second part of the question, if he will include in legislation authority for the INPC to rebuild the Whiddy terminal with the money they are getting——

That does not arise on the Order of Business.

It will arise on the reply I hope. There is no running away from it. They are getting £60 million.

I want to know from the Leader of the House what provision is made in the £44 million for the workers in Whiddy Island, whether there is an agenda——

It does not arise on the Order of Business.

It does arise.

Not in this way. It does not arise on the Order of Business. I am ruling it out of order.

May I ask you a question? How is it that we heard an announcement this morning that a Minister of State from the constituency is in Bantry today meeting the workers? Can I not be told what is on the agenda for that meeting? Will their future position be looked after?

I am not going to put up with this. Deputy Fitzgerald will resume his seat.

I notice that you have one rule for some and another rule for others.

Deputy Fitzgerald will withdraw that statement.

(Interruptions.)

I will withdraw the statement, but I do not withdraw my statement that this Government are mistreating——
