Vol. 363 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Disadvantaged Areas' Schools.

6.

asked the Minister for Education the plans she has to implement the recommendations of the curriculum board for schools in disadvantaged areas.

The Curriculum and Examinations Board have published a number of discussion papers on various aspects of education. The board have not yet made any formal policy submissions to me, as Minister, in the matter of disadvantaged areas.

A working party composed of representatives of the Department, the teachers and management furnished a report entitled "The Primary School Curriculum and the Disadvantaged Child" on 10 June 1985. Copies are being placed in the Oireachtas Library.

My policy in relation to areas of educational disadvantage is set out in paragraphs 2.3 and 3.3 of the Programme for Action in Education 1984-1987 with which I am sure the Deputy is familiar. I shall continue to implement this policy.
