Vol. 365 No. 8

Written Answers. - Eligibility for Hospital Services Cards.

52.

asked the Minister for Health if hospital services cards are granted or refused by health boards on the basis of assessments from the Revenue Commissioners rather than on the actual income as determined by one's auditor for self-employed people or farmers; and if he will make a statement on the matter, as there is some confusion in regard to this scheme.

Income for the purposes of a hospital services card is defined in Article 2 of the Health Services (No. 2) Regulations 1983, (S.I. No. 139 of 1983). Broadly it coincides with income as estimated in accordance with the Income Tax Acts. As proof of income, therefore, health boards require applicants to submit either a Form P60 from employed persons or a Revenue Commissioners' notice of assessment of statement of amended liability from the self-employed including farmers.
