Vol. 367 No. 5

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take Nos. 2, 30 and 31.

By agreement, the Dáil shall sit later than 9 p.m. today and not later than 11.30 p.m. and business shall be interrupted at 11 p.m.

Also by agreement, the proceedings on the remaining stages of No. 30 shall be brought to a conclusion not later than 12.30 p.m. today by one question which shall be put from the Chair and which shall in relation to amendments include only amendments set down by the Minister for Justice.

Also by agreement, and notwithstanding anything in Standing Orders, Private Members' Business shall be brought to a conclusion not later than 8.30 p.m. today.

Private Members' Business shall be No. 52, motion 70.

In view of the precedent which the Taoiseach set will he give the same consideration to the institution in Cork known as Egan's, Patrick Street?

That does not arise on the Order of Business.

The treatment which was given to Bewley's could be given to Egan's which is an institution as far as Cork is concerned. Maybe he would show the same degree of sentimentality——

I cannot allow the Deputy to continue.

I wish to pursue this question.

The Deputy will have to pursue it some other way. I am ruling this out of order.

This is the only opportunity I have. Will the Taoiseach——

I have already explained that the Deputy is out of order.

I accept the Chair's ruling but I want to make my point. Will the Taoiseach show the same sentimentality for Egan's?

I wish to raise on the Adjournment the present dispute between the ITGWU and the Irish Sugar Company at Matterson's in Limerick.

I will communicate with the Deputy.

In view of the fact that the Arts Council see no merit in providing funds for Seisiún which has been in operation for 14 years, provides employment for 600 people during the summer and takes place in 45 centres around the country, have the Government any plans to provide funds for this worthy cause?

This matter does not arise on the Order of Business. I thought we had succeeded in having order on the Order of Business. Let us not go back on that.

Is the Taoiseach not prepared to answer?

No, because I will not allow him to answer.

I wish to raise on the Adjournment the closure of the hotel training school at Rockwell College.

I will communicate with the Deputy.

I wish to raise on the Adjournment the closure of Egan's in Cork which has been established for over a century.

I will communicate with the Deputy.

Will the Taoiseach reply to this question on the Adjournment and ask CERT and AnCO or one of the other training bodies——

The Deputy can make his case if his question is allowed.

I wish to raise on the Adjournment the establishment of an inter-agency group which would be fully representative of all interests on the Shannon and which would voice the problems which exist.

I will communicate with the Deputy.

Does the Minister intend to make a statement on the continuing refuse strike in Dublin?

That does not arise.

The city is like a dustbin.

The Deputy should have moved this through the Whips.

Perhaps the Minister would like to make a statement. May I ask him to make a statement?

I wish to raise this matter on the Adjournment.

I will communicate with the Deputy.
