Vol. 368 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - An Bord Altranais.

9.

asked the Minister for Health the date on which elections were held to elect members of An Bord Altranais; when he proposes to announce his nominees; when the first meeting of the board will take place; and the reason for the delay.

The counting of votes in the elections took place on 7 and 8 May 1986. I propose to announce my nominees soon.

I cannot, therefore, at this stage provide the Deputy with a firm indication of the date for the first meeting of the board. I can assure him, however, that there will be no delay on my part in appointing the first meeting date.

I do not feel that there has been undue delay in setting up the new board. As the Deputy is aware, I was required under the Act to consult with relevant bodies and organisations in relation to my nominees.

What was the reason for the delay in announcing the Minister's nominees.

There were many problems, not least the requirement under the Act to consult with a wide range of bodies. I had to consider a proper balance in the new board. The Deputy will be aware that the number of nominees reserved to the Minister is very small, I had to consult with the CEO of the board and I hope the first meeting will be either in July or September.

We must move now to questions nominated for priority. Question No. 32.
