Vol. 368 No. 3

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

37.

asked the Minister for the Environment when a house improvement grant inspection will be carried out for a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny, as this application was held up because of the tax number of the builder; and if he will give some indication as to the length of time it will take to have an application from the date of receipt at his Department processed and approved and the amount of grant indicated to the applicant.

The inspection in this case has already taken place but the approval of a grant has been deferred pending the receipt from the applicant of clarification requested from her by my Department of the arrangements she proposes for carrying out certain of the works. As regards the second part of the Deputy's question the length of time will vary in individual cases depending on a number of factors but generally speaking the average period is about eight weeks at present.

asked the Minister for the Environment the level of grant which has been approved for house construction by persons (details supplied) in County Kilkenny; and the reason there has been such a long delay in indicating the amount of grant approved.

There has been no undue delay in this case. The particular application was among those covered by the dispensation from the prior inspection requirement and notification issued to the applicant authorising her to proceed with the work in respect of which her application was made subject to the conditions of the scheme (other than the prior inspection requirement) applicable when she applied for the grant. However, in view of the position indicated by the Deputy an inspection with a view to determining the amount of the grant will be arranged within the next few weeks.
