Vol. 368 No. 5

Written Answers. - County Tipperary Forestry Plantation Complaint.

106.

asked the Minister for Tourism, Fisheries and Forestry his views on the considerable damage being done to a property (details supplied) in County Tipperary by the planting of trees too close to the boundaries; if he will rectify the situation; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The property in question is on the northern side of the Department's plantation which slopes steeply down to the property making some shading thereof inevitable. It is not accepted that the trees are planted too close to the boundary or that damage is being done to the property.

However, in the interest of goodwill the Department is prepared to remove some trees along the boundary when the plantation is being thinned in 1987. It will replace these trees with plants suitable for Christmas tree production and these trees will be felled at normal Christmas tree height thus reducing the shading on the property in question.
