A grant of £800 has recently been approved in this case.

54.

asked the Minister for the Environment the reason a pre-1940 housing grant was refused to a person (details supplied) in County Waterford; if there is any way in which the works already carried out can be brought within the terms of the scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

A pre-1940 grant had to be refused because the installation of central heating facilities does not come within the scope of the house improvement grant scheme and neither does the re-wiring of a house unless other eligible repair works under the scheme are being carried out to the fabric of the house. The applicant was so informed on 3 October 1986.

55.

asked the Minister for the Environment when an inspection will be carried out in respect of a house improvement grant for a person (details supplied) in County Wexford.

An inspection has been carried out in this case and approval will issue on receipt of evidence of planning permission, which has been requested from the applicant.

58.

asked the Minister for the Environment when a grant, already sanctioned, will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Limerick; and the amount of the grant.

The application in this case which related to the provision of a bathroom, water and sewerage facilities was covered by the dispensation from prior inspection announced last February. Notification, accordingly, issued to the person named authorising him to proceed with the works in respect of which his application was made subject to the conditions of the scheme (other than the prior inspection requirement) applicable when he applied for the grant. It transpired on a subsequent inspection that a separate application had been made to the local authority in respect of certain of the works under the disabled persons' scheme. Confirmation of the approval by the local authority of such a grant in respect of the provision of a bathroom was received in the Department on 5 November 1986.

On receipt of notification that work on the water and sewerage installations has been completed, an inspection will be arranged with a view to payment of the grants for them.

59.

asked the Minister for the Environment when a person (details supplied) in County Waterford will receive the second instalment of a mortgage subsidy.

The second instalment of the subsidy has been paid.

60.

asked the Minister for the Environment if the cost of re-thatching a private dwelling house qualifies for a grant under the 1985 house improvement grant scheme.

Yes, subject to the work being carried out in accordance with the conditions of the scheme.

61.

asked the Minister for the Environment the reason for the delay in an inspection for new house grant purposes for a person (details supplied) in County Westmeath.

The delay in having an inspection carried out in this case has been due to the heavy volume of inspection work in the area. However an inspection will be carried out within the next few weeks.

62.

asked the Minister for the Environment when a home improvement grant will issue to a person (details supplied) in County Westmeath.

This grant will be paid within the next few weeks.

63.

asked the Minister for the Environment when payment of a home improvement grant will be made to a person (details supplied) in Dublin 3 as the final inspection has taken place.

asked the Minister for the Environment if married couples who decide to erect their own house by doing most of the work themselves will qualify for the new £2,250 new house grant, even though they are not registered builders; if he will amend the conditions of this grant so as to assist people such as these; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I would refer the Deputy to the reply to Questions Nos. 4 and 35 on 30 October. The announcement to be made will deal with the carrying out of part of the work to a new house by an applicant who is not a builder registered for tax purposes.

65.
