Vol. 373 No. 9

Written Answers. - Customs Consolidation Act.

33.

asked the Minister for Finance the proposals, if any, he has to amend, reform or consolidate the Customs Consolidation Act; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that since the bulk of customs law currently in force is European Community legislation, and since those areas of customs procedures covered by Community law continue to expand, there are no plans to amend or consolidate the Customs Consolidation Act.

Work is currently in progress at EC Commission level on the preparation of a Community customs code, the aim of which is to present a comprehensive, consistent and codified body of customs law in substitution for the fragmented collection of laws currently in force in the Community.
