Vol. 374 No. 7

Written Answers. - Dublin Areas Crime Levels.

68.

asked the Minister for Justice if his attention has been drawn to the increase in muggings in the South Circular Road and the Kevin Street, Dublin 8 areas; the steps, if any, he proposes to take to alleviate this situation; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The precise arrangements for the policing of any particular area are operational matters for determination by the Garda authorities who inform me that special attention, by way of foot and mobile patrols and the deployment of other specialist Garda units, is given and will continue to be given to the areas referred to. The Garda authorities have further informed me that in these areas there has in fact been a marked decrease so far this year in the number of crimes of the nature mentioned in the question.
