Vol. 375 No. 3

Written Answers. - Taxes Yield.

68.

asked the Minister for Finance the total amount of money received by his Department from property tax; and the annual amounts received since the introduction of this tax.

I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that the yield from residential property tax is as follows:

Year ended 31 December

Yield

£

1983

1,028,317

1984

1,054,796

1985

2,085,170

1986

1,761,088

1987 (to 31 October)

1,553,234

Total

7,482,605

69.

asked the Minister for Finance the total amount of money received by his Department from the withholding tax since its introduction; the amounts received for each month; and the sums received from each individual professional category.

The total amounts paid to date in respect of tax deducted under the provisions of Chapter III of the Finance Act, 1987, from payments for professional services is as follows:

Income tax month ended

Amount of tax paid in respect of income tax month

£ million

5 July 1987

2.429

5 August 1987

3.550

5 September 1987

3.596

5 October 1987

3.654

5 November 1987

0.058

Total

13.287

The tax must be paid within ten days of the end of each income tax month. Accordingly, the amount of tax paid to date in respect of the month ended 5 November 1987 is relatively small.

To determine the amount of tax paid in respect of each professional category would require an individual examination of all the relevant returns furnished to date by the accountable persons as defined in section 14 (1) of the Finance Act, 1987. Such an examination could be carried out only at disproportionate cost.
