Vol. 377 No. 7

Written Answers. - Cathal Brugha Barracks, Dublin.

23.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will outline the discussions which have taken place between his Department's representatives and Dublin Corporation with respect to the acquisition by Dublin Corporation of a substantial part of the grounds of the Cathal Brugha Barracks in Rathmines, Dublin 6; when it is hoped that agreement will be reached to the transfer of the lands; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Limerick West): In August 1985 a meeting was held between representatives of Dublin Corporation and of my Department at which the corporation were informed that the Department would be agreeable in principle to transfer an area of about 3.5 acres at Cathal Brugha Barracks to the corporation subject to conditions to be agreed. Since then the matter has been the subject of much discussion and correspondence between the corporation and my Department, mainly about the question of access to the site. However, to date the corporation have not indicated that they are prepared to proceed with the proposed transaction and accordingly my Department are considering the question of making alternative arrangements for the disposal of the property.
