Vol. 380 No. 2

Written Answers. - Access for Emergency Services.

30.

asked the Minister for the Environment whether he will make regulations requiring all householders whose properties adjoin a public road to display, in standard form and size, and at the point where their properties adjoin the road, the street or road number, or the name of the house as the case may be, in order to facilitate the prompt access of emergency services and others, particularly at night.

There is a legal obligation on the occupiers of houses in urban areas to display the house number on their premises.

It is a matter for the local authority to see that this requirement is complied with.

Local authorities have been asked by my Department to ensure that, in all built-up areas, streets are properly named and the houses in them numbered and that street nameplates and house numbers are displayed.
