Vol. 383 No. 1

Written Answers. - Lottery Fund Allocation.

176.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the total amount of moneys allocated to date from the proceeds of the national lottery through his Department; the total amount of actual payments made; the total reserves still available, if any from the national lottery; the amount likely to be spent in the current year; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

No money has been allocated to my Department out of national lottery funds.

177.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he has any plans to change the present price review system used to determine the retail price of petrol on the Irish market; if he has satisfied himself that the fall in value of oil on the world market has not been reflected in a corresponding price reduction to the Irish consumer; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

As I announced yesterday, the Fair Trade Commission will carry out an inquiry into the supply and distribution of petrol. I expect this inquiry will result in greater transparency in the pricing of petrol and autodiesel. In the meantime I do not propose to change the present system of reviewing the price of petrol until the results of the Commission's inquiries are known.

I wish to assure the Deputy that it remains my priority to ensure that the consumer benefits to the fullest possible extent from downward movements in the price of oil.
