asked the Minister for Finance if he will specify where the Regional Fund payments were allocated to Ireland in 1987 and 1988 categorised on an individual, county and sectoral basis; and the amounts allocated in each category.
Written Answers. - Regional Development Fund Payments.
Details of commitments from the European Regional Development Fund for 1987, broken down on (i) a county by county basis and (ii) a sectoral basis are set out in the following schedules. In this regard it should be noted that ERDF aid is granted in the form of a commitment which is translated into a cash receipt according as the project progresses.
Further commitments of £38 million, £19 million and £194 million were received in 1987 in respect of multi-annual operations under the Star and Valoren Community Programmes and the National Programme of Community Interest — Roads Development, respectively. These resources are allocated on a national basis and records are not available on a county by county basis.
An additional £11 million commitments were received during 1987 in respect of multi-regional telecommunication development projects which cannot be broken down on a county by county basis.
Decisions on the vast majority of Ireland's 1988 applications for assistance from the European Regional Development Fund have yet to be announced by the European Commission.
