asked the Minister for Justice whether the Government intend to maintain the legal arrangements in regard to extradition, under the Extradition (Amendment) Act, 1987.
Written Answers. - Extradition (Amendment) Act, 1987.
19.
Section 7 (4) of the Extradition (Amendment) Act, 1987 provides that that Act will expire on the day that is 12 months after the date of its passing — that is 14 December 1988 — unless a resolution is passed by each House of the Oireachtas before that day — declaring that it should continue in operation after that day.
The Government consider that the safeguards provided for in the Extradition (Amendment) Act, 1987 continue to be necessary. Accordingly, I will be moving a resolution in the Dáil and Seanad before 14 December next for the renewal of these safeguards.
