Vol. 393 No. 5

Written Answers. - Increased Estimates Allocations.

144.

asked the Minister for Tourism and Transport the reason for the increased finance under Vote No. 35 subhead A7 in the 1990 Estimates; and if any new organisations will receive subscriptions from same.

The overall increase in the provision under subhead A7 relates mainly to increased contributions payable to Eurocontrol to take account of the development by the Organisation of a Central European Flow Management Unit and European Data Bank to alleviate congestion in European airspace.

The subhead does not include provision for subscriptions to be paid to any organisation of which Ireland was not previously a member.

asked the Minister for Tourism and Transport the reason for the increased finance under Vote No. 35 subhead D5 in the 1990 Estimates; and if he will give details of same.

Subhead D.5. of my Department's Vote is concerned with expenditure on the supply, installation and maintenance of navigational, radar and communications equipment for the Air Navigational Services Office. The allocation for 1990 for the subhead is £11.85 million as against an allocation of £6 million for 1989.

A major re-equipment programme at the State airports involving total expenditure of £30 million on new radar, communications and navigational aids is currently in progress and a significant amount of this expenditure falls due to be paid during 1990. The main projects included in the programme are as follows:
