Ceist:25 Mr. Clohessy asked the Minister for Defence if he will extend the annual training programme for the FCA in 1991; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The reduction in the normal training period in recent years has been necessary as part of the Government's programme for achieving reductions in the level of public expenditure. I am anxious to see the normal situation restored and in the meantime it is my intention to continue arrangements for the payment of the full amount of the gratuity to members who undergo annual training.
I am satisfied that an acceptable standard of training is being maintained.
