Vol. 414 No. 1

Written Answers. - Reserve Forces Training.

P. J. Sheehan

Ceist:

46 Mr. Sheehan asked the Minister for Defence if he will consider the introduction of two weeks annual training for members of the Reserve Forces who are serving for less than four years; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Reduction in the normal annual training period for members of the Reserve Defence Force, second line, has applied since 1983 as part of the programme for achieving reductions in the level of public expenditure. This situation will be kept under review with the objective of restoring the normal arrangements as soon as circumstances allow. Notwithstanding the reduced period of annual training the gratuity payable to qualified members of the Reserve Defence Force who complete the maximum permissible period has been maintained at the full rates.
