Vol. 416 No. 1

Written Answers. - Cork Barracks.

Gerry O'Sullivan

Ceist:

82 Mr. G. O'Sullivan asked the Minister for Defence if he will outline the capital expenditure he plans for Collins Barracks in Cork this year; if he has any plans to provide extra recreation facilities for the personnel stationed there; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Seán Ryan

Ceist:

92 Mr. Ryan asked the Minister for Defence whether the investigation into the funding of recreational facilities referred to in his reply to Parliamentary Questions Nos. 30 and 50 of 31 October 1991 has been concluded; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 82 and 92 together.

The provision of £4.5 million in the Defence Estimate for this year for capital building works will be expended on the most urgently needed requirements, and the demands of Collins Barracks, Cork, will be taken into account in the allocation of these resources.

I appreciate the importance of recreational facilities in Army barracks generally throughout the State and due regard will be had to the provision of such facilities within the limits of the available resources.

I am continuing my efforts to obtain special funding for the construction of such facilities within the Defence Forces.
