Ceist:

76 Mr. Farrelly asked the Minister for Defence if he will outline the following details in respect of the advisers appointed by his Department: (a) salary, (b) conditions of employment, (c) pension entitlements/annuities, (d) travelling expenses and (e) specific duties to be performed by these people; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

One special adviser is employed by my Department and the details sought by the Deputy are as follows: (a) £25,298 per annum; (b) the appointment, which is subject to the Civil Service Regulation Acts, 1956 and 1958, and any other Act for the time being in force relating to the Civil Service, is to a temporary unestablished position in the Civil Service. The duration of the appointment is as determined by contract; (c) the position is pensionable in accordance with the terms of standard pension schemes for non-established State employees; (d) vouched travel expenses are paid at the appropriate Civil Service rates in accordance with terms sanctioned by the Minister for Finance and (e) furnishing advice as required on matters relevant to me and my Department.
