Vol. 417 No. 5

Written Answers. - Medical Treatment Facilities for Military Personnel.

Emmet Stagg

Ceist:

92 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Defence the reason part two of the Defence Forces Regulations A. 12, covering the medical treatment of military personnel, other than officers, in military or civilian hospitals has been cancelled; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that arising from this lack of regulation, military personnel who are authorised by a competent officer to receive such treatment in a civilian hospital, are not being covered for the cost of such treatment as have heretofore; if he will re-introduce part two of the regulations; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Defence Force Regulations A. 12 are not relevant to the provision of medical treatment for military personnel other than officers.

Under arrangements made by my Department in conjunction with the Department of Health non-commissioned personnel of the Permanent Defence Force and their eligible dependants may, where officially authorised, avail of public in-patient and out-patient hospital services without charge.
