Vol. 417 No. 9

Written Answers. - Naval Service Vessels.

Peter Barry

Ceist:

98 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for Defence if all Naval Service vessels are fully manned and operational, including helicopter co-ordination.

All seven Naval Service vessels are currently operational and are fully crewed. Naval Service vessels are, however, taken out of service from time to time, to allow for crew leave, scheduled maintenance and other contingencies.

Since late 1991 the Dauphin helicopter has been operational from LE Eithne on fisheries surveillance activities.

Peter Barry

Ceist:

99 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for Defence if it is intended to build or purchase further vessels for the Naval Service.

It is not intended to acquire additional vessels for the Naval Service at present.

The capability of the Naval Service to fulfil its maritime role is, however, kept under constant review.
