Vol. 419 No. 6

Written Answers. - Dublin Housing Development Access.

Tony Gregory

Ceist:

168 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Defence if his Department will make access available from Arbour Hill to the Halliday Square site in Dublin 7 for a proposed housing development as the only alternative access is through a secluded residential area which would suffer serious disruption which would be unacceptable to local residents; and if his Department can review their refusal to sell the necessary land required by the developers of this site.

The developers sought to purchase the existing roadway from Arbour Hill to the site in question. As the roadway forms an integral part of my Department's remaining property at Arbour Hill the Department offered to grant a licence to the developers to use the roadway during the development of the site and thereafter to the purchasers of the new houses until such time as the future of the remaining military property at Arbour Hill has been decided. This offer was not accepted.

My Department has now, however, offered to the developers permanent access to the site over the Department's property at Arbour Hill. The developers have informed the Department that they are considering this offer.
