Adjournment Debate Matters.

The Ceann Comhairle wishes to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given to him under Standing Order 20 (3) (a) and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Flaherty — the crisis in funding of the home help service in the Ballymun area which has resulted in no new referrals being accepted, a waiting list for service and the collapse of the whole service by October-November if the crisis is unresolved; (2) Deputy Kelly — the proposal by Cork County Council to sell a portion of land at Gurteenard, Kanturk, County Cork, which cost approximately £24,000, for the nominal sum of £1,000 to a private individual; and if he will investigate the position; (3) Deputy Gerry O'Sullivan — the threatened closure of Aurion Limited, in Kilbarry Industrial Estate, Cork with the loss of 140 jobs; (4) Deputy Allen — the steps the Minister for Industry and Commerce has taken to save 140 jobs at Aurion Limited at Blackpool in Cork, in view of the announcement by management that jobs would be phased out over a four week period and that the plant would then be closed; (5) Deputy Gay Mitchell — the abolition of the alleviation allowance from next July and the effect this will have no many of our less well-off citizens; (6) Deputy Spring — the progress being made in responding to the request by Kerry County Council for approval for a new landfill site at Muinganinnane, Raemore, Tralee; (7) Deputy Seán Bar-rett — the subject matter of Parliamentary Question No. 143 of 28 April 1992 to the Minister for Education regarding the Dublin Language and Learning Unit; (8) Deputy Nealon — if the Minister for the Marine will reject the application from the ESB to erect pylons on the foreshore to carry power cables from Strandhill to Coney Island, in Sligo Bay, because of the damage this would do to an area of great natural beauty and because an alternative cabling system is possible; (9) Deputy Fennell — the reason two students (details supplied) are unable to obtain multi-entry visas and if he will make a statement on the matter; (10) Deputy Durkan — the conflict that exists between the spirit of the Programme for Government as agreed by both Government parties, with particular reference to retention and expansion of indigenous jobs, and the apparent approval by the Government of Board na Móna's proposals to close Lullymore briquette factory with a loss of 150 jobs; (11) Deputy Power — the serious situation that has arisen following the national lottery draw on Saturday 30 May 1992; (12) Deputy Ryan — when the results of the tests currently being carried out on cucumber will be available, and given the devastating effects the recent announcement by a person (details supplied) is having on the industry, if the Minister for Agriculture and Food will confirm that compensation will be paid to the growers affected; (13) Deputy Deenihan — the serious implications for Tralee General Hospital and the people of Kerry because of the decision by the Southern Health Board to close a number of wards in the hospital this summer; (14) Deputy Richard Bruton — the Government's decision to terminate the position of national AIDS co-ordinator; (15) Deputy De Rossa — the urgent need for additional funding for the Eastern Health Board to enable them to assist the Ballymun Home Help Service and the Aoibhneas Women's Refuge located in Ballymun, both of which services are run by voluntary groups and are at risk of closure; (16) Deputy Hogan — the need for the Minister for Industry and Commerce to indicate when the Greencore inquiry will be finalised; the action he intends to take on foot of the final report and if he will clarify all matters relating to the appointment and payment of the inspectors; (17) Deputy Browne (Carlow-Kilkenny)— the difficulties experienced by students attending schools for the blind in dealing with geography paper questions that are based on drawings and maps and to ask that the Minister for Education deal immediately with the problem by changing the questions so that they can be read in braille; and (18) Deputy Brian O'Shea — the decision to close down St. Angela's Unit of St. Caoimhín's Hospital in Baggot Street, in view of the fact that it caters for the specific needs of deaf children with a view to introducing them into the national school curriculum.

The Ceann Comhairle has selected for discussion the matters raised by Deputies Gerry O'Sullivan, Browne (Carlow-Kilkenny), and Flaherty.
