85 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health if he proposes to set up a State indemnity scheme to cover the public work of all consultants; and if he will make a statement on the matter giving the projected cost to the Exchequer of such a proposal.
I have no proposals at present to establish a State indemnity scheme to cover the public work of consultants. The whole area of medical indemnity is at present being examined by an inter-departmental working group. In the circumstances, it is not possible to give an estimate of the cost of any particular proposal.
