Vol. 443 No. 5

Written Answers. - Irish Missions Abroad.

Jim O'Keeffe

Ceist:

53 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs the number of embassies, residences and other such premises which are owned and rented respectively by the State; and his views on whether the ownership option is more cost-effective.

The information requested by the Deputy is set out in the following tabular statement.

The question of whether it is more cost effective to rent or to purchase depends on a number of considerations and varies from one location to another. Individual decisions to purchase Embassy premises are made following consultations between my Department and the Department of Finance and are subject to the approval of the Minister for Finance. The possibility of purchasing further official premises is kept under continuous review.
