Vol. 453 No. 2

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - National Museum Collection.

Desmond J. O'Malley

Ceist:

11 Mr. O'Malley asked the Minister for Defence if he is prepared to contribute material of historical importance to the new National Museum in Collins Barracks, Dublin. [9029/95]

There will be a Defence Forces museum section in the National Museum complex at Collins Barracks. Additionally, the military archives will be moved to Collins Barracks from their present location at Cathal Brugha Barracks. Material of historical importance will be contributed from various Defence Forces barracks.

A board has recently been established to identify, inter alia, items and materials held throughout the Defence Forces suitable for inclusion in the new museum complex. I understand that the board has already assembled an impressive list of items for transfer to the museum.

I welcome the Minister's reply.
