Vol. 470 No. 8

Written Answers. - Document Production Costs.

Seamus Brennan

Ceist:

116 Mr. S. Brennan asked the Minister for Justice if she will state the total cost to her Department of producing and posting the package of documents entitled Improving Your Security; which was posted to pensioners throughout the State under the joint names of herself and the Minister for Social Welfare on paper containing the logos of the Garda Síochána and her Department; if her attention has been drawn to the fact that pensioners have received two copies of this package in some instances with different reference numbers; her views on whether it is unusual for a Minister's signature to appear on a letterhead containing the Garda logo; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [20158/96]

The information pack in question contains Garda crime prevention leaflets, relevant to the security needs of the elderly, and Department of Social Welfare leaflets. I am informed by the Garda authorities that the cost of updating and reprinting the crime prevention leaflets was £26,000. The information pack also contains a letter — with the logos of all of the agencies involved: the Department of Justice, the Department of Social Welfare and the Garda — which was signed by both myself, as Minister for Justice, and the Minister for Social Welfare.

I understand that the Deputy's question about duplication of some packs will be addressed by the Minister for Social Welfare in response to a similar question put down for answer by him.
