Vol. 478 No. 4

Written Answers. - Flood Relief.

Michael Smith

Ceist:

35 Mr. M. Smith asked the Minister for Finance the funds provided in the 1997 Estimates for the drainage of the River Mulcair; and the number who will be employed on the scheme. [11138/97]

Two flood alleviation schemes are scheduled to be completed on the Mulcair River — Ballymackeogh (Newport) and Cappamore over the next two-and-a-half years. The Newport site is scheduled to commence shortly with a likely expenditure in 1997 of £0.9 million and employing approximately 40 people.

The Cappamore scheme is due to go on public exhibition in early May and works are expected to commence in July of this year. The expected expenditure in 1997 is of the order of £1 million but the likely numbers employed cannot be finalised at this stage.

Provision for this expenditure is contained in Subhead H2 of the Office of Public Works Vote.
