Vol. 490 No. 6

Written Answers. - Architectural Policy.

Ivor Callely

Ceist:

87 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands the general architectural policy for Dublin in the immediate years ahead; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [10944/98]

My colleague Deputy Dempsey, Minister for the Environment and Local Government, and myself are currently finalising details of a major package of legislative, administrative and financial proposals for strengthening the protection of the architectural heritage, which we will announce in the very near future.

In relation to the development of a Government policy on architecture, I have recently established an interdepartmental working group to co-ordinate the development of specific policy proposals and actions in the context of the policy statement on architecture adopted by Government. Both of these initiatives relate to architecture in the State, but they will of course have major implications for Dublin.
