Vol. 493 No. 1

Written Answers. - School Staffing.

Paul Bradford

Ceist:

123 Mr. Bradford asked the Minister for Education and Science if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 81 of 11 June 1998, he will confirm that an enrolment of 91 pupils in September 1998 at a school (details supplied) in County Cork will allow for the retention of a third assistant teacher. [15466/98]

I regret to inform the Deputy that an enrolment of 91 pupils in September 1998 will not be sufficient to re-appoint the third assistant teacher at the school in question for the 1998-9 school year.

The reference to a substantial enrolment increase in my reply to the Deputy's earlier parliamentary question in this matter should be interpreted as an enrolment increase which results in an inability to manage classes within maximum class size guidelines.
