Under the national development plan, the agriculture, food and related rural development area has been allocated substantial Exchequer and EU funding over the seven year period 2000-06. The funding relates essentially to measures for farmers and the food processing sector. The following table gives full details.
As regards progress under the NDP, the position is that negotiations with the European Commission on the community support framework for Ireland, necessary to draw down the EU element of the funds have recently been completed and the various operational programmes required have been finalised and submitted to the European Commission. It is not possible to indicate at this stage when any of the schemes involved will commence but they will all apply in Longford and Roscommon, with the exception of the Western Investment Fund which will apply only in Roscommon and the cattle breeding and equine infrastructure measures which will not apply in either county as they relate to organisations located in Cork and Kildare respectively. The latter two measures will, of course, benefit the whole country as they relate to overall improvements in cattle and equine infrastructures.
