Vol. 528 No. 3

Written Answers. - Met Éireann.

Ceist:

71 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Public Enterprise the policy of Met Éireann in relation to downstream promotions; if interviews for some of these promotions have been put into abeyance; if a retirement which occurred in June 2000 is to be filled by promotion covering two positions in two inland weather stations; if this position is at present being covered in an ad hoc arrangement by Met Éireann, by one officer, when other more senior officers or officers in similar roster situations were not asked to do so; the reason this is the case; the plans she has to correct this position; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [30324/00]

It is the policy of Met Éireann to fill vacancies as soon as possible in accordance with procedures agreed between Met Éireann management and staff side representatives.

Following a request from staff side representatives no promotion competitions have been held in Met Éireann since January 2000, pending the outcome of discussions with the staff side representatives on promotion procedures.

The matters raised are the subject of ongoing discussions between Met Éireann management and staff side representatives.
