Vol. 549 No. 2

Written Answers. - Local Authority Housing.

Róisín Shortall

Ceist:

119 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the amount of funding granted by his Department to Dublin Corporation in 2001 for the installation of central heating in tenants' homes; the amount granted to Dublin City Council for 2002 for the installation of central heating in tenants' homes; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6264/02]

As indicated in my reply to Questions Nos. 327 and 328 of 19 February 2002, there is no specific funding mechanism available from my Department for the installation of central heating in local authority rented dwellings.

Róisín Shortall

Ceist:

120 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government whether a person who is permanently resident in Ireland with his family, but working for a United Kingdom company on a three weeks on and three weeks off basis on various off-shore oil-rigs, and paying tax to the United Kingdom, is ineligible for the shared ownership scheme; if so, the reasons therefor; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6267/02]

In accordance with statutory provisions the shared ownership scheme is operated by local authorities. It is, therefore, a matter for each local authority, within broad overall guidelines set by my Department, to determine the eligibility of individual applicants for the scheme having regard, inter alia, to their housing need and financial circumstances. Neither the statutory provisions nor the guidelines made reference to the place of work of applicants and it would be a matter for the relevant local authority to determine whether a shared ownership loan may be advanced in the light of the particular circumstances of each individual case.
