Vol. 562 No. 4

Written Answers - Communications Masts.

Trevor Sargent

Ceist:

297 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources if a company (details supplied) has public liability insurance, as required in the licence agreement covering Garda radio masts; if such insurance covers the possible effects of ionising radiation; and if such insurance is properly underwritten. [5939/03]

The licensing of telecommunications installations is a matter for the Commission for Communications Regulation. The licenses issued by the commission include a requirement for compliance with the international guidelines for non-ionising radiation and the commission has on a regular basis undertaken audits to ensure that the emission limits are being complied with. The audit reports have been placed in the public domain. The specific condition concerning access to and use of the Garda radio mast is part of the contract between the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform and the telecommunications company. I have no function in the matter.
