I thank the committee for electing me. It is a great honour to be elected Chairman of this very important committee which, hopefully, will do a lot of work in the coming years. I welcome members of the committee, particularly the newly elected Members of the Dáil and Seanad. Members will know the transport brief was dealt with by the Joint Committee on Public Enterprise and Transport in the 28th Dáil. I pay tribute to the people who served on the committee; I hope we can build on their work. I will do my best to be a fair and impartial Chairman. An approach in which all members can contribute and feel their efforts are worthwhile will give the best results.
