Seanad Éireann díospóireacht -
Wednesday, 4 May 1932

Vol. 15 No. 12

Intoxicating Liquor (Occasional Licences) Bill, 1932—Final Stages.

The Seanad went into Committee.
Section 1 agreed to.

In reference to Section 2, I desire to draw the attention of the House to line 34. Senators will observe that it provides for a period beginning on or after the 1st May, 1932, and ending on or before the 31st October, 1932. When this Bill was prepared in my Department it was hoped to have had it through by the 1st May. There was rather a hurry about it and it was impossible to introduce it in the Dáil as early as was intended. The date, 1st May, is certainly inartistic, as the Bill cannot become law before to-morrow, but beyond its being inartistic, it is not of much importance. However, I thought it right to draw the attention of the Senators to the matter. It seems to me of no importance whatsoever, but it is right that the Seanad should be aware of it.

It will be a pity that anything connected with Cork should be inartistic. So the Seanad will set it right.

Cathaoirleach

That is not necessary.

That would mean sending it back to the Dáil.

We will have to be inartistic for once.
