Vol. 25 No. 2

Order of Business.

Before you call the next item of business, Sir, would this not be a suitable moment to inquire if any arrangements have been made for the consideration of subsequent items? Will the House sit to-morrow? Time is of the very essence of my motion, as, if the Government is to do anything, it must be done immediately. It will be the first of February in a day or two. I should like to know if there is any arrangement by which the House would sit to-morrow.

Leas-Chathaoirleach

That is for the House to decide. It is impossible to say whether subsequent motions will be taken to-night until we have completed the next motion.

I think it is pretty clear that the other motion will take the rest of the evening, and it may be a very good idea to have a sitting to-morrow.

Could we not discuss that on the adjournment?

I want to make sure whether the motion would be taken if we do sit to-morrow. It would be discreditable to democracy if we sit only two days when a motion for the provision of essential foodstuffs remains on the Order Paper.

Leas-Chathaoirleach

It is a matter entirely for the House as to whether it would be taken to-morrow, if it is not reached to-night.

I suggest we discuss it on the adjournment and that the Senator concerned take an opportunity to speak to one or two members of the House in order to reach agreement.

Leas-Chathaoirleach

The Senator can raise the matter on the adjournment, if it has not come up before that.
