Vol. 60 No. 10

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take Nos. 1, 2 and 3 as on the Order Paper. The Seanad will note that there are quite a number of motions on the Order Paper and it is desirable that we should deal with them as expeditiously as possible before Bills, which may impede the possibility of discussion, come in. In view of the fact that we have been discussing motion No. 3 and that it is desirable to conclude it, I wonder could we get an idea of how many speakers there will be and when Senator Sheehy Skeffington could be allowed to reply. I have the idea that we should sit tomorrow morning at 10.30 also so that if we conclude No. 3 tonight, we can deal with No. 5.

Item No. 4 is not being taken?

No. Could we get an idea of how many speakers there will be and whether we could conclude the motion tonight? I do not want to hamstring the discussion but Senators will understand my anxiety to deal with other motions.

I wonder if the Leader of the House could give any estimate as to when we are likely to reach this motion today? I could not judge how long the other two items might take. I appreciate that it is difficult to hazard a guess.

I do not know how long we will take on Nos. 1 and 2 but I am anxious to know how many other Senators wish to speak.

I think there will only be two from this side of the House.

It would be a bit premature to determine that matter now. Speakers may be anxious to make a contribution on the Bill. Perhaps the Leader of the House might raise the matter later on.
