SELECT COMMITTEE ON PUBLIC ENTERPRISE AND TRANSPORT díospóireacht -
Tuesday, 9 Jan 2001

Vol. 3 No. 3

Message to Dáil.

In accordance with Standing Order 79B, the following message will be sent to the Dáil:

The Select Committee on Public Enterprise and Transport has completed its consideration of the Aviation Regulation Bill, 2000 [Seanad], and has made amendments thereto.

I thank the Chair, the Clerk and the ancillary committee staff for all the work they have put into the Bill. I particularly thank members for the open spirit in which the Bill was discussed. I thank Opposition and Government Deputies for their contributions.

I thank the Minister for taking a positive attitude to the proposals of both Opposition and Government backbench Deputies. That is the right way to proceed. For a Bill that took a record length of time to go through on Second Stage - it holds the record as the longest debated Bill in this Dáil——

The shortest Committee Stage.

I congratulate the Chairman and commend the Minister on accepting amendments. I wish some of her colleagues would adopt that approach.

Deputy Stagg is aware of my format.

Those were sensible measures that will ensure the Bill is better.

I join with other speakers in thanking the chairman for convening the meeting and getting the work done in such a businesslike way. I thank the Minister and all those who put work into this Bill. I thank them for the thoughtand preparation which went into the Bill and for the opportunity to make this contribution.

I thank the Minister, her officials and colleagues.

Mrs. O'Rourke: I thank the staff in the Department for putting up with me as we went through the Bill and for their work on the legislation.

The Select Committee adjourned at 4.50 p.m. sine die.
