SELECT COMMITTEE ON TRANSPORT díospóireacht -
Tuesday, 10 Jun 2008

Business of Select Committee.

I understand the select committee will consider Committee Stage of the Dublin Transport Authority Bill 2008 on 19 and 20 June. Does the Government intend to guillotine Second Stage debate in the House on 17 June? Will the current timetable for amendments apply?

No, the four days will not apply. I understand the Whips and Deputy Broughan have agreed that the select committee will deliberate on Committee Stage of the Bill on 18 and 19 June.

I hope to arrange a meeting in private at 4.30 p.m. on Tuesday, 17 June 2008 to further consider the report on the bus strategy. We have made a provisional arrangement with the Dublin Transportation Office to make a presentation on Thursday morning at 8.30 a.m. on the specifics of the proposal to establish a bus gate. This has been done to accommodate members who want to have a further discussion and understanding of this issue. We will consult members to determine if they are interested in proceeding with the meeting. We will also consult spokespersons and the Vice Chairman on the meeting for next Tuesday. We are running out of time if we want to produce a report before the end of July.

When is it intended to have Report Stage of the Dublin Transport Authority Bill?

That is a matter for the Whips. It is hoped to complete the legislation before the end of the session.

The select committee adjourned at 4.35 p.m. until Wednesday, 18 June 2008.
