My Department is committed to creating an inclusive and supportive environment for employees with disabilities, and to ensuring equality of opportunity in all its employment practices in line with the National Disability Inclusion Strategy 2017-2021 and the Comprehensive Employment Strategy for People with Disabilities 2015-2024. My Department’s approach is guided by the Disability Act 2005, Employment Equality Acts, and the Code of Practice for the Appointment of People with Disabilities to Positions in the Civil Service.
The Human Resources Strategy 2023-2027 for the Department, and the Gender, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (GEDI) Action Plan 2022 -2025 include a number of actions aimed at supporting greater diversity and inclusion in the workforce. These include mainstreaming, and extending our programme of work, policies and practice in the areas of diversity and inclusivity with an emphasis on increasing employment of persons with disabilities.
My Department provides work experience opportunities for persons with disabilities via AHEAD’s (the Association for Higher Education Access & Disability) Willing Able and Mentoring programme, and the Oireachtas’ Work Learning (OWL) programme.
