Ceisteanna (416)

Thomas Pringle

Ceist:

416. Deputy Thomas Pringle asked the Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media the reason stop signs which are positioned at the side of roads and printed onto the road itself, in Gaeltacht areas in County Donegal are written in English and not in the Irish language; and if she will make a statement on the matter. Regulations for road signs and markings, including the use of Irish on signs, are set out in the Traffic Signs Manual, which is an official publication issued as an order by the Minister for Transport under section 95 of the Road Traffic Act 1961. I have no remit with regard to traffic signs.
