Vol. 1 No. 16

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. - NATIONAL LIBRARY ASSISTANTS.

TOMAS DE NOGLA

To ask the Minister for Agriculture whether, in view of the fact that grave discontent exists among the Assistant Staff of the National Library of Ireland owing to their treatment as regards remuneration under the recent reorganisation scheme, and whether, in view of the general feeling among the staff that they do not receive commensurate remuneration for the class of work performed by them, he will institute an inquiry at the earliest opportunity into the administration of this Institution.

Mr. KEVIN O'HIGGINS

The grievance of the Assistants in the National Library, as expressed in communication furnished by their Association, is that they have not been accorded the same hours of attendance and the same annual leave as Clerical Officers of the Civil Service. The posts of Assistant and Clerical Officer differ in scale of remuneration, nature of duties, and conditions of recruitment, and I can give no undertaking to hold the enquiry suggested.
