Vol. 1 No. 31

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. - ASSAULT ON OFFALY MAN.

To ask the Minister for Defence whether he is aware of the circumstances or can explain the reason for the assault on William M'Intyre, Cloghan, Offaly, by two soldiers of the National Army on Sunday, October 22nd, if he is aware that the injuries inflicted have rendered him incapable of carrying on his ordinary work since that date, whether he will order a military inquiry into the conduct of the soldiers who were responsible, and say if M`Intyre will receive reasonable compensation for loss of wages and doctor's fees incurred as a direct result of this assault.

It would appear to be a fact that William M`Intyre was beaten on Sunday, 22nd October, by two officers of the National Forces. Five days previously, namely, on 17th October, M`Intyre is said to have taken part in the looting and in the attempted burning of the home of these two officers. The matter is being further inquired into.
