Vol. 2 No. 46

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. - COMMANDEERED MOTOR CARS.

To ask the Minister for Finance whether he is aware that Motor Traders, as well as other traders in Cork City and County, using motor cars and lorries as essential business equipment, have had same commandeered by the Military Authorities in Cork, and have been for many months, and are still without the use of same; that those traders have not yet received payment for same or compensation in the cases of cars damaged while in military charge; that many of these traders are very seriously affected, and are being driven out of business through financial embarrassment, and all feel it is time their claims were disbursed; and whether the Minister will prescribe an early date for settlement of all those traders' accounts which have for some time past been frequently furnished, and which might reasonably be considered as being long overdue.

A Committee has been established for the investigation of all claims arising out of the commandeering of motor vehicles by military and every possible effort is being made to issue payments with despatch.
