Vol. 3 No. 2

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. [ ORAL ANSWERS. ] - COUNTY SURVEYORSHIPS.

asked the Minister for Local Government if it is a fact that the qualification has now been annulled by him that before appointment as a County Surveyor a candidate should have four years' experience of important works? Further, if it is a fact that for forthcoming examinations for such appointments the standard has been greatly lowered by the omission of several subjects essential to the efficiency of a County Surveyor from the practical examination, such as railway and canal engineering, marine engineering, hydraulic engineering, and drainage and river works; and whether such a lowering of standards tends to the efficiency of public services?

No such change as that mentioned in the first part of the question has been made. No syllabus in connection with future examinations for County Surveyorships has been officially adopted pending the setting up of a Civil Service Commission, upon whom this duty devolves.
